Embroidery Artwork Guidelines

Get your logo ready for professional embroidery. Learn which file formats work best, how logo size and detail affect stitching, and what to expect during our artwork review process.

FILE FORMATS

Which Logo Files Work Best?

The clearer your artwork, the easier it is to prepare accurate embroidery. Here are the most common file formats.

AI

Vector Artwork

AI, EPS, and SVG files are preferred because they can be scaled without losing quality. These formats are ideal for reviewing outlines, lettering, and logo details.

PREFERRED
PDF

PDF Artwork

PDF files are useful when they contain original vector artwork. A PDF made from a blurry image will not automatically improve the logo's quality.

GOOD OPTION
PNG

Image Files

High-resolution PNG and JPG files can often be used. Clear edges, readable lettering, and sufficient image resolution help our team prepare your design.

ARTWORK QUALITY

Good Artwork Makes a Difference

Clean, readable logos generally translate better into embroidery than low-resolution graphics or extremely detailed artwork.

6 Tips for Better Logo Embroidery

Follow these recommendations when preparing artwork for embroidered polos, hats, jackets, and workwear.

01

Use Clear Artwork

Upload the original logo whenever possible. Avoid screenshots or heavily compressed images if a better version is available.

02

Keep Text Readable

Very small lettering can lose definition when stitched. We may recommend enlarging text or simplifying certain details.

03

Consider Thread Colors

Embroidery uses thread rather than ink. We select suitable thread colors to represent your design, although exact digital color matching is not always possible.

04

Choose the Right Logo Size

Logo dimensions depend on the garment, available embroidery area, and complexity of your design. We review size and placement before production.

05

Limit Fine Details

Gradients, photographic effects, extremely thin lines, and overlapping elements may need simplification for embroidery.

06

Review Your Proof

Check the logo layout, approximate size, spelling, and placement on your embroidery proof before giving approval.

LOGO PLACEMENT

Common Embroidery Size Guidelines

These are general starting points. Actual dimensions depend on your logo and the selected product.

Placement Typical Logo Width Notes
Left Chest 3"–4" Popular for polos, shirts, and jackets
Hat Front 3"–4.5" Height and cap construction matter
Sleeve 2"–3" Depends on sleeve width and material
Jacket Back Varies by design Subject to embroidery area and equipment

*Sizes are approximate guidelines, not guaranteed maximums or minimums. Final sizing is reviewed based on the garment and logo design.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Artwork & Embroidery FAQs

Can you embroider my logo if I only have a JPG?

Often, yes. A clear, high-resolution JPG may be suitable for preparing an embroidery file. Our team will review the artwork and let you know if a better file is needed.

Do I need an embroidery-ready DST file?

No. You can submit your original logo artwork. Embroidery digitizing is the process of converting the design into a stitch file. If you already have a digitized file, our team can review it for compatibility.

Can embroidery reproduce every logo detail?

Not always. Very fine lines, tiny text, gradients, and photographic details may need to be adjusted for thread embroidery. We review these limitations before production.

Will the embroidery thread match my logo colors?

We aim to select thread colors that closely represent your artwork. However, thread colors and screen colors can appear different, and an exact match is not always possible.

Can I use the same logo on hats and shirts?

Often, yes. However, hats and shirts have different embroidery areas and fabric structures. Separate sizing or digitizing adjustments may be needed.
